The British Virgin Islands "BVI" are relatively young as an offshore financial centre but remarkably successful nonetheless. Approximately 800,000 companies have registered in the BVI since 1984 and the rate of new registrations continues apace. BVI is highly-regarded as a domicile for hedge funds, captive insurance registrations and trusts for use in commercial transactions.

The BVI’s appeal as an offshore centre arises from its creation of modern, flexible laws and a well-regulated but unrestricted business environment. Competitive filing fees and low maintenance charges have proved to be a winning formula for small- and medium-sized companies as well as large sophisticated corporations. Other strengths of the BVI include a stable political and economic environment and a legal system founded on English common law.
